This according to
the packet of American Seeds is a Busy
Lizzie. It does however grow with a relatively thick stalk whereas the norm over here is usually a flattish plant which appears to spread along the ground much more. This little pot has
really suffered in the wind and
the rain. |

| The
RED
LILY Beetle. A word of warning April 2008. Due to the weather being hot one minute, warm and damp the next appears to be ideal breeding conditions for this insect. It lives in the top layer of soil under the plants until about this time of year-late April-when it emerges to lay its eggs on the plants leaves. Although the insect itself can cause some damage it is the Grubs of the insect that cause most damage. The eggs are laid on the underside of the leaves and eventually-about 6 to 9 weeks - the grubs emerge (orange coloured) and can very qickly decimate the plant to the extent it may die. The insects themselves can be picked off and crushed if you only have a few plants, but if you have many it is best to use "Rose and Flower insect Spray" as wild birds do not find the grubs to their taste due to the fact that the grubs have a nasty tasting and looking coating-their excrement, which also deters gardeners from picking them off.
