Bonfires and Smoke

One also has to consider the neighbours-do they have washing out-windows open or children in the garden. Smoke can also cause accidents if you live close to a road and the wind is blowing in that direction. Be Careful-Be Considerate or you may lose a source of exchanging plants etc..

As a follow on from cuttings and pruning, we all have left overs which may be difficult or impossible to put on the compost heap.

Some Councils now take small wood cuttings but most have a maximum thickness. If you can ,put them in the recycle Bag ready for collection.  If not and you are not in a Smokeless Zone you could consider a Bonfire.

A few things to consider before lighting a fire.  If your pile of wood has been in the garden for a while make sure there a no Hedgehogs resident in the pile-they have a habit of going to sleep to overwinter in wood piles and under Hedges. And that is another thing to be careful of-Birds nesting in Hedges. Although it is not an offence to cut your hedge anytime ,it is an offence to interfere with many wild birds nests.
